IVY KIRZHNER, the Music Artist

For several years, Ivy has been actively involved in several musical projects as a vocalist, producer, writer, performer, frontwoman and guitarist.  She is popularly known in the East Coast local music scene as the enigmatic frontwoman and co-founder of the New York City-based progressive metal ensemble called AIKOSTAR (2001-2007), primarily known for its extraordinary arrangements, vast intense dynamics and eclectic instrumentation.  The rest of the members included Alex Kirzhner on guitars, multi-instrumentalist Clifton Hyde (The Blue Man Group), and percussionist Kevin Garcia (Wheatus, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), sharing diverse musical tastes ranging from Mahler and Bartok to Meshuggah, Tool, Radiohead, and the instrumentations ranging from electric guitars and bass to mandolins, bouzoukis, ouds, djembes, cellos, violas, violins, keyboards and synths.  In 2006, Aikostar released a critically-acclaimed untitled debut album, commonly referred to as The Gun Album.  And Ivy, whose voice has been described as “Maynard James Keenan having a threesome with Dolores O’Riordan, and Bjork” has also earned quite a reputation for her unforgettable primitive tribal dance simultaneous with a powerful, gut-wrenching vocal performance.
